Isnt this one of the big reasons racism is so big right now?

Because we chose to dismiss it?
I had someone tell me last night that "Oh well its just teens talking crap ohhh Im scared"
What she said that to was the fact that some people were calling a black person a coo and saying they should teach him a leason and kill him .
Im not gonna say who because I dont want this post about that .
THe point is they were very racist and this person like so many others chose to dismiss it.
It doesnt matter if it is teens talking crap the racism is still there.
Dont you think this is a part of the big racism problem?

  • Wow, where do you all live? There are so many racist white people out there and so many racist remarks against others. As a matter of fact, here on cafemom, I read alot more white racist remarks against blacks than anything else. Yes, I do think we need to start speaking out. That is exactly why racism continues, from ALL sorts of people.

  • It's hard to dismiss racism when there are double standards. It's ok for black ~teens, rappers, and comedians to use language that would be considered racism if spoken from from a white person? It's ok for white kids to say white trash, but not for a black child to say it? No. Double Standard. Across the board. In order to get respect, you have to show respect. jmo

    Never seen this.
Blacks can call whites anything and nobody says a word about it. But just let a white person even THINK about calling a black person a disrespectful name and all hell breaks loose. The blacks can beat down the whites and if the whites try to fight back you get the whole Jesse and Al show and candlelight vigils and the whole nine yards come to town.
Yesh in the past things were unequal and blacks had it bad, but things chnged. This is now and it's the other way around now and whites got it bad, and nobody cares 'cause apparently, "Whites got it coming".

  • Kanye is just an ass because he's an ill-bred boor without manners, it has nothing to do with the color of his skin.

  • No matter the color of our skin, we should never tolerate racist remarks from our children. We live in a culture full of hate, and its got to stop.

  • Racism is big because blacks will not let it go. If a white person says anything negative about a black person, someone starts shouting racism. I don't share Obama's political beliefs. Therefore I must be racist.

  • It is never proper to dismiss racist behavior as kids being kids. You're right---ignoring it or pretending it's not *that* bad is a big problem.

The rest of the replies? An even bigger problem. Racism isn't just about calling someone a slur. Racism is, as you should know, prejudice coupled with power. Not saying name-calling is acceptable, but being called "white trash" (which is offensive to people of color as well, as it assumes that trash is not white by default) is nowhere near as horrible as being called the N-word, or being followed around in a department store, or being pulled over by the cops for driving in a nice neighborhood. The hate and history behind these words and actions are powerful and well known....yet some of choose to ignore that every day. And so it will continue.
Are there black kids saying "whites got it coming?" Sure there are. But they're not the real problem---white denial of racism is.
