This was inspired by a previous post. What are your thoughts about gender selection? I'm talking about medical intervention like fertilisation or abortion.
I'm personally against it because some countries now have a dangerous gender imbalance.

I think it is detrimental to society, mostly because it overemphasises gender & thus gender roles. Or as the ethics committee of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine put it; "the potential for inherent gender discrimination, inappropriate control over nonessential characteristics of children, unnecessary medical burdens and costs for parents, and inappropriate and potentially unfair use of limited medical resources" make it a bad idea.

Hospitals in Britain will not tell you the gender of the baby. They stopped because of the alarming rate of female fetus abortions amongst the Asian community.
