Gender selection.

This was inspired by a previous post. What are your thoughts about gender selection? I'm talking about medical intervention like fertilisation or abortion.
I'm personally against it because some countries now have a dangerous gender imbalance.

  • I think it is detrimental to society, mostly because it overemphasises gender & thus gender roles. Or as the ethics committee of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine put it; "the potential for inherent gender discrimination, inappropriate control over nonessential characteristics of children, unnecessary medical burdens and costs for parents, and inappropriate and potentially unfair use of limited medical resources" make it a bad idea.

  • That's taking roll of "playing GOD" a little to far!

  • I agree that it can cause imbalances. Look at all the female babies in orphanages in China. Some things should just be left to nature.

  • Hospitals in Britain will not tell you the gender of the baby.  They stopped because of the alarming rate of female fetus abortions amongst the Asian community.

  • The selection part is not why the female children are in orphanages in China they are there because of the lack of value a woman brings. The gender selection of future children would Mean all those girls would have been aborted or never created to begin with.

  • Completely against it!! God will give you what you need. If you only ever have boys, then you were not meant to have girls, or vice-versa. Choosing like this, is going against the will of God!
