When will it be safe to give my baby baby food?

My son is four months old and I know this is usually the time to introduce baby food but he was a month early so I'm wondering if I should wait. Any thoughts?

  • Your Pedi should be able to give you the proper information on this. However, from experience I started giving my son infant cereal at four months old. He refused it and wouldn't have anything to do with it. Still to do this day won't eat infant cereal or infant rice. We started him on pureed foods and that only took for a couple of weeks. We stuck to only bottles for about a month and then tried again. Your child being premature shouldn't have any effect on when your child starts on infant foods, unless your Pedi says otherwise. Most babies who are premature develop as any full term infant would with no complications. Talk to your Pedi, even if it's just a quick call on the phone and see what they think.

  • You introduce baby cereal at 4 months. Baby food gets introduced around 6 months.

  • Like piwife said for premee's you go by their adjusted age untill usually one, so you may want to hold off untill next month.
