If you were about to file a police report, would you tell the whole history or just the specific incident?

  • Dad was a cop for 32 years. You let the cop ask you what happened, and answer ONLY the questions he asks you . DO NOT volunteer information like the history of the incident. The cop will ask you what he wants and needs to know. offering more info than he needs can lead to you not getting the result (person arrested) that you want, or worse you getting in trouble. DO NOT OFFER info not relevant to the incident you called the cops for.

  • I would have the whole story filed in a report just to have it on record everything that has gone on.

  • Could my hubby have access to it? Or no one except me?

  • i'm not sure of the legality there. i guess it would depend is the report against him? if not than when/if it goes to court he'd have access, i'd assume, so a lawyer could defend him. if its not against him and is something you don't want him to know for whatever reasons you have, than call the police station anon and ask them, if i file a report about x, does my spouse have access to that report? but i know here, to pick up a copy of a police report you have to be the person who filed it, or the person who's goods were stolen (only know that b/c we filed a report years ago when someone broke into our car. i had to go in and get the report for the insurance claim, he wanted to get a second copy for records and the only reason they gave it to him was b/c the car was in his name only)
