Do you wake your kids up from naps or do you wait until they wake themselves up?

I wait until my daughter wakes herself up. She usually sleeps 1.5-2 hours before sitting up and babbling to herself until I get her, lol.

  • I try to let her wake up on her own. I only wake her if we need to go somewhere and she is down. There were times I was anxious when she was little because she slept for so long I thought I might need to wake her, but I just let her go.

  • I have always let my son wake on his own. But then he has gotten on a good schedule all on his own. He is 20 months now.

  • I let them sleep until they wake themselves up. The only exception would be an afternoon nap that is going too long. If they sleep too late, then bedtime is tough.

  • I usually let him wake on his own... sometimes I wake him up if he is having a late afternoon nap because I want him to be able to go to bed on time

  • my son i let sleep as long as he wants, hes 3 months. my daughter, is 3 1/2 i'll wake her up if shes been asleep 2 hours, otherwise she won't fall asleep at night and when she does will only sleep a few hours.

  • It depends on the age and circumstances. If it is a younger baby (maybe 24mo and under) we pretty much never wake the baby on purpose. If it is an older baby (over 24mo) we usually let baby wake on its own, unless the nap is running too late in the evening and "not waking baby" means baby will wake up from nap late, go to bed late, wake up next morning late.... and then baby's entire natural routine is really messed up. In those cases, the older baby will get (lovingly, of course) woken at a reasonable time.

  • I always woke my young babies up during the day if it had been 3 hours or more since they ate. This got them on a schedule of being awake more during the day and asleep more at night. As they got older and had a more settled schedule I let them sleep.

  • I don't wake unless it is getting close to dinner. I will stop the last nap by 630 b/c bed is at 8 and I want her to go to bed on time.
