  • The 7th one lived on the island and was just hitching a ride home.

  • The boat shored on one of the islands they were touring and they came across a vicious band of superstitious natives. The only way they were allowed to leave the island was if one of them were left behind for a human sacrifice to the powerful god of the natives. Of course, it was a tough decision to make and no one wanted to volunteer so the captain cut twigs of the same length, making one of them shorter than the others. He carefully notched the top so only he would know which was the short twig and made sure that the irritating man who kept ordering him about on his own vessel received it. The rest of the passengers sighed in relief when the twigs were chosen and ran to the boat as quickly as possible while the screaming man was carried off by the natives. To the authorities, they claimed that he fell overboard and was eaten by sharks. :)
