What do you feel about Obama . . .

putting a tariff on Chinese tires?

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/14/obama-administration-slaps-hefty-import-tariffs-on-chinese-made/

Does this seem like a good idea in the fragile economic condition we are in and could the Chinese take this as a case of 'biting the hand that feeds you'?

Do these kind of moves worry you at all about the experience (or lack thereof) of our commander in Chief?

  • What tires are made here are made from union shops. He's just scratching the backs of the unions at the peril of the rest of the country.

  • If that is "biting the hand that feeds us" what was it called when they were "accidentally" poisoning pet and baby food?

  • Anything that comes from NOT AMERICA should be heavily taxed! Maybe then they would BUY FROM HERE

  • Problem is that we depend heavily on them for financial support. Who has borrowed from who recently? I can guarantee you that it wasn't the Chinese knocking at our door asking for a loan. No, it was our self absorbed politicians wanting all of that pork, they had to get loans from China to get their helpings.

We have departments that are supposed to oversee the products that are being brought into our country. If we aren't doing our jobs, then maybe you should be looking at the mirror while you are doling out the blame.

  • The Chinese import 13 cents of American products to every dollar of exports to the USA. I'm not sure what BO is doing. He is taxing tires from China. What about the rest of the products that come here? It seems like someone called his hand on the tires so he reacted to just those products. We still get toys, glassware, food, clothes, ...........Is he going to tax those too?

  • Oh, and if our government would make it more profitable to MAKE THINGS HERE, then maybe we could employ more people to fill those production jobs and then we could SELL THINGS TO OTHER COUNTRIES. But just like the anon before you, you should look in the mirror if you plan on throwing blame somewhere. Our own government has killed industries that used to employ hundreds of thousands of jobs. Now those jobs are all filled in other countries by foreigners, all thanks to high business taxation.

  • He's a bigger FOOL than I thought, trusting the Chinese to make tires! What the hell is he thinking? They put poison in baby formula, they put lead in toys, does he think the tires from a Communist country are going to be "safe?!?" I hope he's the first to test drive on them.

There is a big problem with there is a quid pro quo. If he wanted to keep money in the US he would loosen regulations and lighten the tax load on American manufacturing. Our own government killed this entire sector. I'm not saying it was just BO either, this has goes back a while!
