On antibiotics, now even sicker!!!! What should I do?

My SD had an on and off cold for 3 weeks, that was accompanied by an on and off fever. Her doc put her on amocycillin 9 days ago. She seemed to be getting better, but all the sudden, she got really sick. This morning, she started throwing up in the car, and her fever is climbing. (at 102.2 now) I gave her ibuprophen and she fell asleep. Her doc can't get her in today. Should I take her to the ER if her fever isn't better when she wakes up?

  • The flu is a virus. Antibiotics don't do anything for a virus.

Monitor her fever, keep her comfortable and find a new doctor who will always see a sick child that day.

  • Wouldn't the antibiotics have taken care of the flu?

  • I agree, if she's been on antibiotics that long and is getting worse she needs to see a doctor. Take her in.

  • Thanks, ladies. I'm so upset. I've tried 5 different doctors in this area, and have hated them all. The only place around here I feel good about taking my kids to, doesn't accept either of our insurances.
