Why is it always our responsibility?

It seems like whenever there is a conflict or "war" and NATO decides to go in that it always seems like we have to take charge, were the ones who have to bankrupt spending money on the war, and we contribute 97% of the troops and other countries barely make anywhere near the sacrifice that we do? I just dont understand how it all works...it seems like we are the ones always running the show, while everyone else just sits back and does the bare minimum, and now they want to wash their hands of it completely

  • We decided to go to war. It was our country leading the way with little support. Thats part of the responsibility that Bush and Congress took when they decided it was teh way to go

  • Because "military" is the only industry we have left. It is the one remaining area where we dominate the world. When you go to war you want the best, we have it.

Before you discount this, give it some real thought. Think of the different companies in the US, what tangible products do we produce that other countries can't compete with?

  • Holy cow!! Sweet agrees with me! Now if we could just figure out a way to make this "industry" work for us! Personally, I think we should ease up and allow some of our older technology to be sold to other nations. Not Iran or Venezuela of course, but other smaller countries that could benefit from it.

We can't expect other countries to "come to the table" if they don't have anything to bring. We know that many countries are automatically hampered by their size. We simply have a lot more people and we can't expect them to match our troop numbers. I say we sell some of our older technologies/weapons...put American's to work and earning dollars from someone else instead of each other. The bonus, others have something to bring to the table and we still dominate with the superior technology.

  • Everyone else has smaller militaries since they spend their money on UHC. They cannot afford to fully defend or protect themselves. I say move many of our troops home and let the rest of the world take on more of the burden of protecting themselves. Look at Canada they don't have to spend that much on defense they know if someone messes with them we would be there. They need to know that is not the case they need to protect themselves fully. Stop sending aid to other countries and use it here to fix our own problems. I don't see anyone sending money over here to help our citizens in need. We need to concentrate more on our own country and shore up our borders and deal with our problems.

  • Because keeping them safe keeps us safe. The places we packed with are easily conquered and gives bigger "fish" easier access to attack us. That is how it works and our foreign policies were in place way before a lot of us were born. So to break these "promises" would be more damage then good.
