When to eat lunch?

This is the stupidest question I ever asked I think but if you still give your kids a nap, do you think you should feed them before they sleep or once they get up, assuming they nap from noon to 2?

I always feed them when they wake up but lately I noticed that they don't eat much at dinner time if I do.

But if I feed them before they lay down, then they get hungry earlier and have to wait for dinner, then they have to snack and again won't eat dinner.

Someone just tell me something that makes sense please! They use to eat all their meals and snack but now they eat if they want to and their father gives em junk food which I hate and I think it may have somethng to do with not wanting real food anymore.

So, I know it's a stupid question, but can you help?

  • my kids used to go down at 12, but i changed the schedule a bit, so instead of lunch at 1130, i give them lunch at 12 and lay them down at 1230. when they wake up they have a small snack, like yogurt or something. we have dinner at 630

  • When my son was at this age i'd usually feed him lunch and then lay him down then offer a snack once he got up.

  • Hit enter before I was done replying.. but if he is waking up around 2 you can offer a snack around 3:30 or so and depending on what time you usually offer up dinner maybe offer a small snack an hour or so before dinner if he starts getting hungry again ( Just do a couple of powder puffs, goldfish, or some string cheese whatever it is just give him a small amount to hold him over don't give him a full snack. That way it holds him over but doesn't ruin dinner.

  • How about making an earlier dinner and lunch before napping? Or snack upon waking, then a slightly later dinner.

  • I'd go with lunch before he goes down then a snack midafternoon. Make sure the snack is a healthy one so even if dinner is reduced, he's has still eaten pretty well. A friend of mine has the same problem and she feeds her son after his nap. SInce her husband gets home later, they simply have a later dinner and solve the problem that way.
The question isn't a dumb one at all!

  • When my daughter used to take a nap, she'd eat lunch at 11 then go to sleep and have a small snack around 2 or 3 when she woke up.
It may help to slowly push nap time back an hour so they don't wake up so close to dinner time. Remember that snack for a little on could be half an apple or a few peanut butter crackers, something small :)

  • I have always fed my kids lunch before nap and then snack after nap. The snack doesn't have to be huge, just gauge it over the next few days depending on how much they eat at supper.
