  • They shouldn't fear anyone. That's just cruel.

As for respect...that has to be taught. What kind of discipline do you use? How consistent are you? There should be very few if any exceptions to the rules.

  • You must give respect to receive respect.. even with toddlers. Chances are though they are going through a defiant stage like most other kids, toddlers really don't have the full concept of "Respect and fear".

  • i know MANY mothers are against hitting. but im telling you, it works! my son is constantly pushing his limits but he knows when i mean business. i let him get away with some things, but other things i will tell him to stop 3 or 4 times before i punish him. and honestly i don't have to hit him anymore. as soon as i stand up real fast he knows that im serious. now im working on his behavior when he's NOT with me.. because now he won't listen to anyone but me and daddy. ughh!

  • annon, the reason you kid doesn't listen when your not around is because by hitting his you aren't teaching him right from wrong or why you don't do something, your only teaching him that you don't do something because mommy will hit you. op, consistant discipline (not hitting) remember dicipline means to teach, set a few ground rules, not too many, but the important ones (ie, no hitting), try writting them down and putting them on the fridge, show them to your toddler, and read them to her, remind her what the rules are, just make your expectations clear, and follow through with the disapline. also MAKE SURE TO PRAISE HER WHEN SHE'S DOING SOMETHING RIGHT!!
