At what age did you stop picking up/carrying your kids?

When did you stop carrying them around? Our son is 3 and never really wants to be picked up unless he is tired and we are not at home. But I know a 9 yr old girl that still wants her mom to carry her every where...IDK if it is a girl thing?! We only have boys so IDK. I was just really surprised that she was whining for her mom to carry her or pick her up.

  • I don't pick kids up unless they are sick, tired or hurt after they are 2 yrs old. They are plenty old enough to walk on their own. A 9 yr old is way too old to be carried.

  • It is called spoiled!! Or a baby!! I stopped carrying my daughter when she could walk. She will ask me to carry her sometimes, but most of the time I tell her she is a big girl she can walk. When they can wipe their own butt they can walk as well.

  • I'll carry my 3yo from time to time, but she knows I can't do it for long. My 5yo is about 60lbs, so no way I can carry him more than a few feet ;o)

  • lol...I think it's precious to hold a child, no matter how old they are-within reason of course!! I'm not talking about a 10 year old kid!! lol...My 15 month old is still toted here and there. I love carrying her. When she gets to an age when she doesn't want to be carried anymore, I think I'll be really sad.

  • Sorry but I have no desire to tote my 15,18 and 23 yr old around...I would find it back breaking lol. Just kidding, I do have two young ones. My 4 yr old rarely wants "up" he wants to explore. My 3 yr old is a bit more clingy. I can't hold him too long. I am 43 with bad wrists, but I do what I can. Now its nice becaus my older 3 can carry my younger two around and not tire like I do.

Oh and I stopped carrying her when she could walk unless she was tired or we were crossing a street.

  • There is no magic age to stop carrying your child. I still carry my child around if she needs/wants it and she'll be 3 in December.
Where are the AP moms? I have seen several on this site that are proud "toddler wearers". I don't think you can spoil a child with affection.
I'll stop carrying my child when she's too old to be carried.
