To the corporate world, it doesn't make sense.
Having a child is a choice, even if you accidentally get pregnant. For those 6 weeks, you're not working, they pay someone else for overtime or to fill in for your position, etc.
It's just not something they see as necessity.
I think if it wasn't the law, some places would probably just can your butt, especially with the economy the way it is.

Yup, I agree with the above poster. Most companies feel that they shouldn't have to pay you if you're not earning it, and you can't blame them. I think it's nice of them to give sick pay when they do!!
