Buy insurance or go to jail??

http://www.politico.com/livepulse/0909/Ensign_receives_handwritten_confirmation_.html?showall
Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) received a handwritten note Thursday from Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold confirming the penalty for failing to pay the up to $1,900 fee for not buying health insurance.

Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead. He signed it "Sincerely, Thomas A. Barthold."

  • If it were to actually pass (yeah, right) I wonder how many of those high and mighty "I'd work a stripper pole before I'd take PA" types would be lining up to get that low income exemption after all.

  • Can we send this to all the uninformed idiots out there who think HCR will give everyone free health care? Please?

  • I actually talked to a young man (I'd say early to mid 20's) outside who had just interviewed where I worked. He was saying he hoped HCR would pass so everyone would get "free health care." I told him it would NOT be free, you would either be paying a premium that THEY decide on and/or much higher taxes. He was STUNNED.

  • Um a 1st degree Misdemeanor carries a maximum of 1000 dollar fine and 6 months in jail.
so this statement sort of a contradiction.

  • I think they'll pick and choose who goes to jail. I mean clearly they don't have enough room to put everyone in jail who violates this law. Sooooooooooo I imagine that they'll just put people in Jail who oppose them (in more than just health care) or pose a threat to them, or are moving up politically....

Now that doesn't sound paranoid does it?

  • Can we arrange to have them in jail during the elections??

It is surprising how many people are clueless about what "free" healthcare really is! Okay, it isn't surprising, but I just can't get used to the fact that there are that many idiots, I mean uniformed people are there.
