contractions?!? Please help

I'm 20 weeks. I'm high risk already from lower abdominal pain. I think I'm having contractions. My bellyis tightning up and puts me short of breath. How do I know it's really contractions? I've been having them for 2 days. They are not close, but I'm only 20 weeks and concerened. I don't want to go to the hospital for nothing...

  • Call your doctor - they sound like contractions but it could just be braxton hicks...mine started pretty early and I've had a healthy pregnancy...now at week 32

  • I would definitely call in if you are considered high risk. Real labor will continue to hurt with increasing pain over time. The contractions will start to hurt worse and become more regular shortening in distance apart. Your doctor or the nurse on duty can probably tell you over the phone whether or not your actually in labor.
