Halloween costumes...

What do you let your children wear?

What won't you let your children wear?

Do you think angels, saints, the Virgin Mary and Jesus should be off limits? A few years ago a Catholic school had the girls dress as their favorite biblical character.

  • Halloween costumes... What do you let your children wear?  Anything

What won't you let your children wear?  Nothing

Do you think angels, saints, the Virgin Mary and Jesus should be off limits? A few years ago a Catholic school had the girls dress as their favorite biblical character. I don't see anything disrespectful about dressing up as sacred figures. My daughter has been a goddess before for Halloween.

  • I don't let my dd wear anything spooky. She has been a butterfly, a pirate (Veggie Tales have a pirate movie), Minnie Mouse, and Queen Esther. She has always picked out her own costume. This year she is going to be ariel or princess jasmine?

My little one was a turtle one year and an angel the next year.

So we have done the Bible thing, but it was their choice because they LOVE the Bible.

  • I let my children wear whatever they want... it's all just play anyway.

As far as Catholics dressing up as Biblical characters. Well we DO celebrate All Saints which is Nov 1. There was always a saint parade when my kids attended Catholic school. All the children dressed up as their favorite saint. Mary happens to be one of those and many girls dressed as her. So really, they are not dressing as those thing for Halloween, but for the day after... All Saints Day.

(hooray for disguised Catholic bashing BTW...)

  • hey animie mom I am really sorry you feel I was bashing. You know how I knew the school did this? because my daughter went to school there. You know why my daughter went to school there? Because she is Catholic.

I know some schools won't let the kids dress as Jesus Christ. I wanted an opinion on a topic I didn't think would cause drama. Biblical characters are OFF Limits in some school.

One year they had all the kids dress up as characters from Charlie Brown.

Oh my daughter has dressed as the Virgin Mary before.

  • We don't celebrate the holiday per se, but I do get the kids some extra candy so they won't feel as though they're missing out on everything. However, if we were to dress up, I'd draw the line at spooky and demonic figures as well. I'd go for Biblical characters or neutral things such as pirates.

I don't see the wrong in letting the kids have a little fun, but we don't do the trick-or-treat thing because it's too risky these days with all the crazies out there.

No, I think it's actually noble to wear such things on halloween :) You can witness by your costume :)

  • I have no limitations as long as its not running around naked or in a g-string LOL.

My oldest is 5 and my youngest is 20 mths so they dont really pick too much. Usually go with what their dad and I pick and ask them opinions about.

We arent big on the whole dressing up as a nun even tho we arent Catholic type thing so we'd never do that.

Now, I cant say what might go down when my boys are teens so we will just have to cross that bridge when we get to it.

  • I don't mind my daughter wearing anything like that as long as it is age appropriate. Like she definetly is not going to dress up like a pay boy bunny until she is out of my house :)
