If your child has brown eyes, was he/she born with blue eyes?

i've always heard that you can't tell a childs real eye color untill 6 months old, and all newborns have blue eyes.

  • NOT all babies have blue eyes at birth. Both my children have brown eyes as adults. DD was born with eyes so dark they looked black, DS had dark slate colored eyes for the first few weeks. It is not true that all white babies are born with blue eyes.

  • My first son was born with dark bluish brown eyes---you could see blue in them. He now has eyes like his father, so dark sometimes you think they are black. My second son was born with baby blue eyes and still has them today (3 years old)

  • Most Caucasian babies are born with blue eyes but there are always exceptions to the rule. My oldest was born with bright blue eyes and they got darker as she got older. They are hazel now (mostly a brown color).
My son was born with dark, steel blue eyes and they just kept getting lighter. He has bright blue eyes until he was 5 and now they are blue-green.
My middle daughter's eyes were never blue. They were a dark gray when she was born and turned brown by the time she was 1.
My youngest daughter was born with blue eyes and still has them at 3 1/2.
I have brown eyes and my husband has hazel eyes. We have a wide mix in our family.

  • My son was born with black eyes and they turned brown. My brother was born with black eyes and they turned blue. Most babies are born with dark eyes and they may or may not change. Brown eyes are a dominant gene. Babies eyes can change well into toddlerhood. My uncle is an eye doctor and that is what he told me.
