Where can I find homeschool groups for my kids?

I am looking for a home-school group for me and my kids to participate in. This is my first year homeschooling them and I don't want them to feel disconnected with the outside world. They are very outgoing kids and get along great with everyone. But, I do want them to interact with kids there own age. I live in a very nice neighborhood but unfortunately NO ONE has any children. Most of my neighbors are elderly so there are no little kids around. I live in Trenton NJ so if anyone knows of any homeschooling groups I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you

  • Check Yahoo Groups.
Home Education Magazine also has homeschool groups listed by state on their website.
Ask at your library; homeschoolers tend to be heavy library users so the librarians usually know them. See if your local museums, YMCA, Rec centers, etc have homeschool programs during they day.
Look for flyers around town. I post our group flyer at the post office, library, etc.
Call some churches. Many groups are religious-based, but even secular groups will borrow church facilities for meetings.

There are probably more groups than you can imagine. When I first moved into this area, I couldn't find any homeschool groups. Now, I know of at least 10, and we are in a rural area!

  • Go to yahoo groups (groups.yahoo.com) and type in your city name and homeschool. The ones we have joined were found on yahoo.

  • Check with your local school district they usually have a list of groups. Also, if you have a YMCA they usually run a physical fitness program for home schooled kids. Chruches are another good source, some even run hoe school co-ops. try community colleges they usually have programs for home schooled kids.
