My husbands Birthday is the 14th of oct. and I was wondering if anyone knew what frosting goes best on red velvet cake?

I have never made it or had it but it is his favorite .
So I was gonna make it for him .

  • Cream cheese. Homemade though and not the stuff from the can. It's pretty easy to make the frosting. I've had red velvet cake with buttercream and even with fondant, but in my opinion, cream cheese frosting is the best for red velvet cake.

  • Growing up the only frosting we ever put on Red Velvet was buttercream frosting. It is very simple to make. 1 box of confectioners sugar. 1/2 cup melted margerine, approx. 1/4 cup of milk and vanilla. Melt the margerine, pour it over the sugar in a bowlbegine stirring then add the milk and vanilla. Stirr until smooth and creamy. Sometimes a little more milk is needed but add a bit at a time..too much and it gets runny really fast.

  • cream cheese. canned is ok, but if you want to go homemade



    • 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened

    • 1/2 cup butter, softened

    • 2 cups sifted confectioners' sugar

    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 




    DIRECTIONS



    1. In a medium bowl, cream together the cream cheese and butter until creamy. Mix in the vanilla, then gradually stir in the confectioners' sugar. Store in the refrigerator after use.

  • i agree cream cheese allthe way here is my recipe for it
    1lbs cream cheese
    2 sticks of butter
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    4 cups powder sugar
    just beat the cream cheese butter and vanilla in a bowl until smooth then slowly as powdered sugar beating on low once its all mixed turn the beaters on high and beat until light and fluffy and there you have the best cream cheese frosting ever MMMMMM :D

  • Cassie_kellison, that's the exact cream cheese icing recipe I use, and everyone LOVES it and it's so simple. Its the best cream cheese icing recipe I have ever found. Love it on spice cake, red velvet cake, chocolate cake, basically any cake lol!
