  • It's better to do it orally; for an accurate ear reading, you have to get just the right angle, which is hard enough on someone else, much less on yourself. Charting your BBT is really easy; keep a thermometer (just a regular one works fine in most cases) by your bed, and take your temperature first thing when you wake up in the morning, before you even get out of bed. Note the temp and the time you took it and enter it in your chart (you can find plenty of charts to use on-line). Before you ovulate, your temp average will be one thing, and the day after you ovulate, it shifts upward by about half a degree, but you can't be sure until it's been up for at least three days.
