Why do i always have this fear , when either planning a baby or when im pregnant...? HELP!

I always have this fear that my child will be retarded. I kno i would not keep it , but its just the fact at every appointment im shaking because im scared i will be having to go through an abortion ...

i know theres a chance it could happen at birth (not be picked up until birth) , so another question ... could i give my baby up after i have it ? IF THIS WAS TO HAPPEN ..

  • Why would you want to? Kids with disabilities can love just like any other child...they have their setbacks but 'normal' kids can have them as well.

  • Jademom07: that is something i cannot and will not deal with. i've thought long and hard , and realized its just not for me. i used to live w/ my ex and his mom , and i would take care of his sister ... but i couldnt do it so i moved out after a few weeks.

  • Then the responsible thing to do is to not have any more children...If you know you will kill one just because you couldn't handle the responsibility, quit.

  • wow. i have to agree with the other posters. if you can't bring yourself to love your baby based merely upon the fact that it has a disability then you should not have any more children because there is always a chance that could happen. it could happen later in life too in an accident, what will you do then?

  • it has nothing to do with being pro choice and everything to do with responsibility. So yea if you are that scared that you would rather terminate a pregnancy if a test shows that there is a possibility that your child could have downs, then chosing to not have anymore children, is just a responsible choice

  • Oh and also you could have a child born with cancer, and they can't tell that when you are preggers without dna testing, and even with that, you would have to have a family member with the same disease. Oh also something could go wrong with the birth and the child could be left with physical disabilities as well, there are so many things that could go wrong it's not even funny
