  • my brother does not hand flap and was diagnosed with ASD
But many children who do hand flap do have ASD. i encourage you to get your child evaluated (or any child) if that child hand flaps.

  • I flapped my hands when I was a child, and I and perfectly normal....I guess... Lol but to tell you the truth, I remember my mother telling me to stop doing hat because it made me look like a retard- I really don't mean to offend anyone with that word but that is what she used to say to me...

  • that's common lovelyli. ...i mean the retard word. ASD was not so commonly diagnosed back then and most children got misdiagnosed with the term retard.

  • Yes my son has hand flapped on occasion. Really more when he was in school and stressed and he does have an ASD diagnosis.

My daughter has never and she does not have an ASD diagnosis, but she does have sensory issues. She does toe walk time to time.

  • I have two who are borderline (no definitive diagnosis yet) and one flaps, the other does not. They are both sensory kids.

  • A friend of my sons hand flaps when he is really excited, toe walks sometime and has some sensory issues. I don't know if his mom has ever had him diagnosed or anything, as I don't even know if she knows these signs. These are just things I pick up on.
