Photo Christmas cards,Snapshots taken at home OR Studio Photos??

I think that photo christmas cards are all the rage. My sil had all her cards displayed last year and I noticed nearly every one was a photo card. We have done them since our first was born.
I am trying to decided if we should do studio pics or snaps shots this year. What are you all doing?

  • We have a cousin who does these every year - her's are ALWAYS home snap shots - they just stop whatever their doing, put on their Christmas shirts and she snaps a pic (just of the kids) - but we have every one for the last 5 years. I prefer the look of the snapshot. It "feels" like the days of always having formal pictures is over - most of our framed photos are snapshots. We have the usual studio shots (from the kids schools and activities - but family shots are ALWAYS at home shots - I prefer it that way.

  • I agree, with pacemyself. I've done it both ways and now I prefer the home shots. You can get your tree or pets in the pic and to me since its homey it feels more like Christmas.

  • I agree. Snapshots are more fun and candid. They reveal the actual personalities of the people in your photograph, whereas a studio portrait will be posed and boring!

  • I do the home snapshots. It's cheaper and cuter. ;-)

  • I do snapshots at home(its so much more natural) and go on snapfish.com and make our Christmas cards.

  • I did them at home and then designed our cards on the WalMart website - it was much less stressful and a whole lot less expensive. They came out great! My sister dresses her kids up as she would for a formal portrait, but she takes the pictures herself at her house - hers always look nice too.

  • We get dressed up and take pictures in front of our Christmas tree a little after Thanksgiving and then I take the pictures and create my own cards CVS.com and pick them up in the store. Last year DH and I were not in the picture we took a pic of the kids and the dogs laying down with santa hats on relaxing in front of the fireplace.

  • I think in the wonderful world of digital photography it is not necessary to go to a studio and pay those prices. Use your own camera, props etc. Just print them out on quality paper, that makes a difference. We do it every year and it works great at a fraction of the cost.
