School open 7 days a week for 12-14 hours?

Has anyone heard of this new idea? I walked in on the news talking about it just as it went off and didnt get to hear what was going on... Is the Gov. serious? What about religious people who go to church and such? or kids whose parents have joint custody and one parent lives a town away or something? Most of all.... What about time to spend with our children? Man what a crazy idea. Anyone have any info on this?

  • no no information on it, but i'm pretty sure such an idea would have to go thru the voters and will get knocked down in a heartbeat. I'm also pretty sure if it passed without going thru the voters all hell will break loose and we'll all say IMPEACH so fast Obama's head will spin.

  • I wouldn't think kids would be expected to go that much. The schools would be a PA day care center for all.

  • Obama has proposed longer hours and year-around school. Not weekends, but still....

It seems to me to be a push for federally funded daycare. Finland scores at the top of the charts year after year. They don't start school until age seven, no homework, no national testing in grade school. Yet they are on the top of the charts. We keep moving toward schooling earlier and earlier, with more and more testing, and our results don't change. Longer days won't change that.

  • Just another way for Obama to indoctrinate our children. They expect teachers from the unions to provide daycare for our kids just like Hitler did. People do not realize that dictators rise to power in small steps and before you know it they are ruling your lives. He doesn't want parents to control their children but the state to control them. He wants a new world order.

  • If this happens I will pull my kids out of Public Schools. The headache of teaching them at home will be worth actually getting to see them! Don't think it will tho. Cost too much to local govt and would kill too many business'......and the teachers would quit by the truckloads....they don't get paid enough for that crap. I think this is yet another case of our novice in chief speaking before knowing what the hell he is talking about.

  • Funny, the OP said she heard this was a statement by a governor--and already the haters jump on Obama. If any of you would bother to do some research, you will find that schools that have lengthened their school year by a couple weeks and school day by a couple of hours have shown an increase in test scores. Of course, unless Hannity or Beck say it, you won't bother to look it up on your own.
