We can't use garbage cans with lock lids in our town. Any ideas on how to keep the racoons from scattering the garbage all over? Can't take the morning cleanups anymore

  • I have heard that sprinkling epson salt around your trashcans would keep them away, they hate the taste of it and go looking for food elsewhere.................Im pretty sure it was epson salt.

  • We put a heavy rock on top of our trashcans...It seems to work.

  • Pour bleach or vinegar on the bags. Or pee on them! Seriously, amonia, a predators urine, and mothballs will keep them from coming around. Also, make your garbage hard to tip over - put bricks on the bottom of it. Or, use a bungee strap to keep the lid on - just take it off before you set the garbage out. Good luck!

  • We use bungie cord and a cinderblock on top. Never heard of moth balls but I might try it.

  • I use the bleach option - a bit IN the bag and a bit on top of the bags.
