should my child get a flu shot with a low grade fever?

She had a fever of 100.0 last night and 99. this morning. We have an appt at 1.40 this afternoon for a flu shot. Is it safe to get a flu shot with a fever??

  • I have never given my kids the flu shot. I definately wouldn't even consider it if they had the slightest fever or cold. I have known too many that have ended up hospitalized after within days of getting the flu shot.

  • 99 is not a fever. Tell the doctor her temperature was up to 100 and see what he says.

  • No. I wouldn't. Especially if she's had a recent fever. Fever is the body's way of fighting infection--your DD's immune system has been weakened recently, and exposing her to the flu shot would not be a good idea.

  • No. You should never receive any kind of vaccine while running a fever. You shouldn't get a vaccine during a simple case of sniffles either.
