  • Soak 3 tbsp of freshly grated ginger in a pint of hot water for 5-8 mins. Strain and drink before bedtime. Add lemon juice if sore throat is accompanied by chesty cough. Drinking the ginger infusion throughout the day and at bedtime for 1-2 days will completely cure your sore throat. You will see a noticeable difference after 1 cup. Ginger is an anti-inflammatory, anti-viral painkiller and mild sedative. Lemon reduces the production of mucus so is helpful for the cough.
(Not my recipe - just went looking for remedies for you - sorry you're sick. DH and I are sick too)
Apple cider vinegar (1 tbsp) in (1 cup) warm water is supposed to do wonders. Hope you feel better soon.

  • You can buy honey (anti-bacterial) and cayenne pepper (anti-inflammatory). Mix equal parts for a great syrup for cough and sore throat.

  • My dad used to make us hot tea with honey and lemon- that really helped for sore throats and coughs. Since the lemons, honey and tea are grocery items- you may be able to us fs for that.
