When should my baby sit up on her own?

I was thinking maybe I carry her around too much. When I put her down she doesn't try to do anything. She just crawls around.

  • WHAT!!! Jordyn is 7 months she'll be 8 months on the 25th of this month and I try to get her to sit and she looks at me and laughs. She probably does it when I turn around! ...lol

  • How old is your daughter? It's different for every baby... but usually between 5-8 months is the average range. Try sitting her in a Bumbo seat so she can work on the muscles she needs to sit up, or with a Boppy or pillows around her on the floor in case she does fall over. Just like anything new she's learning, it does take practice! Good luck!

  • My son is 2 1/2 months and you can tell he's trying to sit up but he can't do it. It sort of looks like he's doing sit ups.
I would suggest some tummy time. When she pulls her head up to look around it will help her build up her neck, stomach, back, and chest muscles.
Can she hold her head up on her own yet?

  • When she's ready lol I have no idea when my first dd could walk- we *tested* her one day at 9 months and.. she could.. they do what they can do in their own time. And usually concentrate on one area at a time. My older grrl was very proficient in the physical arena- but her verbal skills fell behind- until they caught up!! LOL then she was one of those kids who started talking in sentences and never shut up..!!!

  • My son started sitting up after he started crawling at 7 months. So I would say about 7 1/2 - 8 months.
