why is it so bad to stop taking antibiotics before you finish the entire prescription?

I know drs and everyone says continue to take them, but what will happen if you dont?
What is SO bad about it?
i tried googling it and found nothing....

  • theres nothing BAD about it...but your more likely to have your infection come back....

  • If you stop before the alotted amount, you may not have killed off the entire infection and run the risk of having it reoccur.

  • Because the infection may not be gone, even if you feel better. So if you stop taking them, it could come back? That is JMO.

  • By not taking the entire prescription and killing the infection altogether, you may only kill some, allowing the others to become resistant to antibiotics. You then spread those resistant bacteria to others, and we have no way to treat it.

  • The short answer - not finishing your whole course of antibiotics can lead to bacteria that are antibiotic resistant, such as MRSA.

    Exactly, I know a girl who never finished her perscriptions when she felt better, now she gets MRSA twice a year and it's NASTY. The doctor told her that's how most people get it.
