why does my jello always have the thick layer on top

it just seems that eveyth ime i make jello i get that thick layor on top andthenthe jello dosnt harden off once i take it off

  • Make sure you are using the correct amount of hot water, then make sure that the gelatin is completely dissolved in the hot water before you add the cold water or ice. Then stir several times as it begins to cool down. I let it sit a bit at room temp before putting in the refrigerator. After it is completely cool, then you can cover it, but not until. I had the same problem until I did these things.

  • SweetLuci gave the same answer I was going to, only difference is I dont let it get to room temp before I cover and fridgerate.
    Honestly I had never thought of that.
