Does anyone take rectal temperatures and if so, what do you put on the thermometer to help it go in?

  • We use aquaphor, which is what we use for diaper rash.. so I would say whatever you use for diaper rash, it is handy because we always have it anyway..

  • I've used KY jelly. Don't insert it more than 1/4 inch, and make sure the baby holds still so you don't puncture the rectum.

  • Never. We always used the armpit; just add one degree.
