Breastfeeders

Is it the AMOUNT of time spent on the breast (like ex 10 min on each side) or the FREQUENCY (ex every hour but only for a minute each)of time on the breast that builds your milk???

  • Both together...if you don't empty a breast out (time limit) the baby will not get the hind milk that is so nutritious and your breast will not make as much to replenish. If you don't nurse frequently, the frequency at which your breast becomes engorged lengthens (supply and demand)

  • Frequency builds supply faster but you want to make sure that baby is staying on long enough to get the hind milk (the stuff that puts meat on their bones)

    Other ways to build your supply: drink lots of water, take brewers yeast tablets, have lots of skin-to-skin coverage.
