Ohio child support question

What % of a man's income do they collect for child support? We went to court, he isn't working at the moment but they didn't say anything about this for when he does start working. We have 2 children together.

  • From my experience in Ohio, it's not really about a percentage of his income.

They look at his income and your income.

    Add the two together.

There's a chart that indicates the amount of money required to support a child in that income bracket.

Then the child support is divided by what percentage of that amount you each earn. His child support is based on his portion of that amount.

Generally, if he is unemployed, they will impute his income at the minimum wage.

Here's a calculator website, I just tested our income on it and it came out pretty close to what we pay. http://www.alllaw.com/calculators/childsupport/ohio/

  • You should be able to find child support guidelines for Ohio online. If not you should be able to get them from the child support office.
