The Chinese government is buying American companies on American soil. Is anyone comfortable with this?

We do not want our "government" dictating to us how we do business, but what about the Chinese government? or any other foreign government? Its time for America to take back its businesses. If businesses want to take away jobs from Americans by taking them overseas or by failing. Then we as Americans need to do something with those businesses and not let them fall into the hands of foreign governments. Any ideas on how we stop this from happening?

  • The same thing happened in the 80s when the Japanese bought a bunch of property in the US. Have you noticed?

Do you know so little about government and law that you really think the Chinese government is going to run those companies just because private entities in China own them?

  • Shougang is a steel maker owned by the government of China...Shougang Corp. is the company buying Delphi Corp. So its not a private entity.

  • Lots of US companies are owned in part by foreign companies. Especially the British and Canadians. My only concern is the exportation of jobs overseas. And frankly, the business leaders did it to themselves by starting with sending jobs out of the country, laying people off so they can't buy.

This IS a result of the free market economy. He with the cash wins.

  • I'm just happy that Timmy's is owned again by a Canadian, not an American. I mean, really! Tim Horton's is part of our national identity - what's next, Canadian Tire?? Next thing you know you'll be trying to steal our ideas around health care and the social safety net...oh, probably no need to worry about that :)

  • They have been doing this for decades. Anyone who is surprised by this hasn't done their homework. Am I comfortable with it? Does it matter? It is all done legally (as far as we know), there is nothing we can do about it.
