Do you consider one swat on the bottom or pop on the hand a "spanking"?

  • I do consider it spanking. Is it wrong? Well that is a different story. I wasn't spanked, nor do I plan to spank my kids. But I can see where in some cases a little swat would be nessicary. There is a difference between a little swat and child abuse. I think that the decision to spank should be up to the parent, as long as it doesn't really hurt the child.

  • I even say that to my DS "do you want a spank" because all he's ever had is ONE swat. I think multiple swats is taking it overboard.

  • Yes. It's an action aimed at correcting a misbehavior.

  • Yes it's spanking but I don't like that term, it's just a word parents use because they don't want to say they hit their kids. Same difference.

  • I agree with RhondaVeggie...using the term "spanking" is a poor attempt to cover up the fact that you ASSAULTED your child.

  • HELL YEAH, I'd spank my children if needed. I'm sorry that is how I was raised and it made us good children into adults.. My friend always got on me about it and I always used to say to her "when I leave a bruise on my children then I'll worry about it!" (I have since stopped and used other ways to discipline with them but they do get it as a last resort!) The answer to your question is no.. at lease IMO.
