Pagan mommies, any ideas for baby's first birthday?

My daughter is 1 today (YAY!) and I wanted to do something for her tonight, but I'm not really sure what to do. I was thinking maybe a quick and small ritual asking the Lord and Lady (or a specific deity/specific deities) to watch over her as she grows. Not really sure yet, just got this idea a little while ago, so any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks ladies!

  • Happy Birthday! What a joy you have there. I did a blessing of my daughter when she turned a year. Being a preemie, it was a HUGE milestone and I made a big deal of it. We celebrated with cake and ice-cream but later on, I blessed her. I blessed her with health, good lungs, happy heart and her giant smile as those are the things I felt she needed and those things I wanted her to keep. Her second year, we gave her a homemade dream catcher, complete with feathers which she promptly pulled off. I don't know what I will do for her third birthday but at the rate she rearranges my altar she just might get her own.

  • OOOOHHH how fun.
It sounds like a really good idea.
Do you call on any particular dieties? Maybe an introduction of her to them?

  • Happy birthday!! You could do a celebration of her natal chart year by year. Start with the sun, Libra. Maybe a nice air ritual? Make potpourri together with some things you gather from the park or woods by your house then infuse it with essential oils to impart a fragrant blessing into the air. Then next year celebrate her lunar energies?

  • I really like the presenting her to the Lord and Lady. I also like Isabellas birthday blessing. In our group we have had the Mom and or Dad walk around our circle with the little one and each person gives a personal blessing to them.

  • I always wonder why do we need to introduce our children to the dieties?
