Planning A Roadtrip...

I am plannig a roadtrip and my final destination state is Virginia. Specifically Virginia Beach. So, my question to anyone that knows, is when is the best time to visit Virginia Beach? And what kind of weather does Virginia have during that time of the year? I am totally excited abou this trip and would like any information you have to offer.

Thanks in Advance.

  • ok you didn't say what time of year...but i'm from Va beach so let's see, Va beach in summer (the actual beach) sucks cuz it takes you FOREVER to find a parking spot, and traffic sucks. before i moved, i would go to the beach in the off season. you can find parking free or cheap then. it'd be too cold to swim of course, but at least you can go check it out and walk the strip. watch the road when you'r driving, they don't know how to drive there. and tunnels are always slow. winter does get really cold, but at the same time Va weather is never accurate, i remember a few years ago it was 70 degrees on christmas, but the next year it snowed. so you can never really say. have fun!

  • oh maybe i should have mentioned, if you are going during summer, and go to the beach, go to 19th street. they're good on prices, the other ones are way to much, like $25. and i'm not exaggerating. i think 19th street is like $7, depends on holidays and stuff. but 19th runs all year. if you don't want to deal with it, maybe you can ask some local's about chick's beach. it's a nice beach that isn't so crowded, and it's got some houses, and businesses on it. yes, it's public, and it's nice. that's where i went in the summer, so not to have to deal with parking and traffic. like i said, ask some local's they should know what you're talking about.

  • i'd come late sept, tourists have all headed home and its still fairly warm. there are also a few festivals around that time of year that are family fun. weather is anywhere from the 70s to the 90s that time of year. i wouldn't come in the summer, too many people, beaches are packed, just a hassle all the way around no matter what you do or where you go you have to leave 3 hours before you want to do it b/c of traffic and parking crap. if you do come in the summer, the above poster is right, chicks beach (just mapquest shore drive, stay on shore drive for a bit and you'll start seeing beaches behind hotels etc..that is chicks beach) or croatan (on the other side of "virginia beach" opposite of chicks beach, in a neighborhood) both are way less crowded, unless you are military in that case go to damneck naval base and go to the beach there. the weather changes drastically day to day one day it'll be 100 plus the next its CONT

  • oh and ALWAYS check the weather a few weeks ahead of time, hurricanes come normally in the fall, so you don't want to make plans to go into a hurricane. they're never really bad (knock on wood) but still you want to watch it
