I thought they were coming home

I thought they said our military would slowly start coming home at by the end of the year. 900 men and women from the Texas Army National Gaurd have just been deployed to Iraq. That kinda defeats the point of saying they are bringing our military home doesn't it?

  • They are coming home. It is a slow process.

Generally, the way it works is when a BCT finishes their tour, they aren't replaced. But some are still replaced, depending on their location and the particular job that they are doing.

But 900 is just a drop in the bucket. Most units will deploy thousands of soldiers at a time. A BCT is usually 2-5 thousand soldiers.

  • They plan on leaving about 50,000 in Iraq until, at least, 2012.

  • Obama said he would bring our troops home.

They may be leaving Iraq, but they won't be coming home. The get to hop the next plane to Afghanistan.

    Obama lied, people died.

  • Nothing is going to happen until he actually makes his opinion known on the Gen. McChrystle's recommendation. While he waits, soldiers die. Yeah, he's the commander in silence.

  • "the commander in silence. "

Good phrase, Jesse. Our poor soldiers are going to continue to die because he can't make a decision.

  • Oh Obama made his decision. The more of our military that is away from our country means a country that is weakened and won't be in the position to defend itself when Obama continues to tear us apart.

  • We've already added more soldiers to Afganistan in last few months. Now we're looking at adding more.

I've come to the conclusion that no one really cares what adding more soldiers will do TO the soldiers, they just want Obama to make a decision very quickly. And then if it doesn't work and we lose more soldiers, then they have something else to blame him for.

So in the end, the soldiers are just being used as a political pawn.

Isn't that a common fate for most soldiers?  It's not right, but common.  It's never as easy as the politicians try to make us believe it is.  I just hope they get the opportunity to finish the job before they come home.  I would hate for them to have to go back because it wasn't done right the first time.
