Concerns About Child's Development

My daughter is 8 mths old. Physically she has developed fine. She is crawling, sitting and has just began pulling up. Since about 2 mths she hates being held (unless you are standing up). She cries if you try and cuddle, hug or kiss. She hasn't fell alseep in my arms since 3 mths. She does cry to be picked up, but doesn't want to be held close. She prefers being turned around facing front. She also doesn't like eye contact up close unless you are doing something entertaining. She will make eye contact when I'm bottle feeding her. She likes to watch me and rub my face. She is also not babbling. She never really cooed and she babbled for about a week two weeks ago, but hasn't since. She does mimic me clicking my tongue, scrunching up my face, and slapping my hands on a surface. If I am on the floor with her she likes to interact with me. Has anyone else experience similar behavior? Am I right to be concerned?

  • just her personality, maybe a sibling would help socialize her in her safe zone? Maybe she is more of a thinker?

  • NO I don't think you should be concerned. My daughter is 10 months and she doesnt' like to be held either lol. She wiggles around and goes limp so that she can be on the floor. They are very curious at this age, she rather be facing front so that she can see her surroundings. Also she rather be on the floor crawling and getting into everything as well.!

  • my son even grunts and growls at my and DH. Dh thinks its funny to kiss him a bunch cuz he gets mad. once my DS could start moving around on the ground, that was it, no more cuddle baby. she sounds like a very observant baby. i think you dont really have anything to worry about other than an independent little one!

  • Nope, this sounds JUST like my son. He hated to be held close. Not ALL babies are cuddlers just because WE want to cuddle!! i didn't actually realize that though til I had my son! He wasn't a babbler iether. he's more of an observer! he's 23 months, started REALLY talking at 19 months - running at 13 months - STILL hates to be cuddled, finds no comfort by ME comforting him - we do kiss and run'!! he gets a boo boo, I kiss it, he's all better and he's off to running again. I would NOT be concerned at all if I were you ,.I KNOW its hard not to because its too easy to compare to other peoples kids but no, she sounds perfect
