I need a REALLY good sugar cookie recipe

Anyone help me out? I've tried at least 6 different recipes, but they NEVER come out right. ANY other cookie known to man - I can master - but not these! LOL You'd think they'd be the easiest.

I want to cut them into Halloween shapes so my kids can decorate them, but they either puff up huge losing the design or they flatten out to rocks and they never have any taste.

I just don't get it --- I choose recipes with "high ratings" & follow the recipes to the "T". All my other cookies come out awesome. It's a conspiracy, I tell ya!

Thanks in advance! :-)
