  • I am fairly certain he is an atheist. Most socialists are either atheists or deists & are against organized religion. Any particular reason or just one of those questions that pops into ones head?

  • There is a very good (as far as I can tell accurate) biography of him here http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/COLDcastroF.htm but it doesn't really mention his religion.

  • There wasn't a real reason why but most Cubans I know(not all) are Catholic and I read he went to a memorial for the Pope but most communist are atheist.
just a random hmm what would it be kind of question.

  • Apparently he was raised catholic, another online bio mentions he attended catholic schools. It seems to have made an impression even if he didn't continue to agree with the church. I didn't mean to be nosy, the question just made me wonder how that would come to one's mind :)

  • Well here is how it started.(human brain keeps working while we sleep)

Yesterday there was a documentary on JFK's assassination. JFK was Catholic and one of his big president things was the Cuban Missile Crisis. Khrushchev's was/is(not sure if he is dead) atheist.

So JKF"s death got me to thinking about his life, his life got me thinking about his presidency and a question the other day about what church he went to which got me to thinking about Cuba which got me thinking about my old b/f (from Cuba and Catholic) which got me thinking about a lot of Latino countries are Catholic which made scratch my head about Cuba because communism and Catholic don't mix. LOL

It also took me about 20 hours to process all that ;)

  • LOL the workings of the human mind are fascinating! Now you have me wondering if a strong dedication to their religion (mostly Catholic) had an influence on the decision of those who fled Castro's Cuba.... I had only ever thought of the economic issues before.

  • UH LOL I don't know. I might look it up tonight. I am going to church(Catholic Mass ironically) in about an hour but tonight I might put my little google search to work. Or just ask another question :) so many ladies are helpful here.

I actually haven't ever heard of anyone saying they left Cuba for religious reasons and it seems like Church was always allowed. I mean a boy can't go against his mother now could he :)
