  • Yep, I'd have to agree with miss.Smokey.
    You just might not be far along enough for them to register that you're pregnant.

    Ask them what your level was. Here's the chart:
    * 3 weeks LMP: 5 - 50 mIU/ml
    * 4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml
    * 5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
    * 6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
    * 7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
    * 9 - 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
    * 13 - 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml
    * 17 - 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml
    * 25 - 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 - 117,000 mIU/ml
    * Non-pregnant females: <5.0 mIU/ml
    * Postmenopausal females: <9.5 mIU/ml

  • i think they just did the qualitative. but if it showed on a normal test a week ago shouldnt the blood work show that i am?

    Answer by Anonymous at 3:58 PM on Oct. 11, 2009

  • Not necessarily.
    It might be that the digital test picked up on your pregnancy a helluva lot sooner than the blood test would.
    Or, unfortunately, it might be a chemical pregnancy.

    I'm not quite sure what you mean by qualitative...? If they drew blood, they would gauge how much HCG you had in you. If it's under 5 - which is either you're too early for them to tell or you're not pregnant.
    I would give it another few days, and ask to be tested again. In the meantime, you could always pick up a cheaper HPT, if you don't want to buy another digital and test again.

  • quanitative gives you the hcg number. qualitative is just like a regular yes or no preg test.

  • qualitative or quantitative, either way, they would measure the HCG level. qualitative just measures whether or no you are above that baseline of 5. quantitative would measure exactly what the HCG level is and could possibly tell you haow far you are. it is possible to get a fals positive on an HPT. you can always wait a few days or so and re-test. if it is positive again then go back in for another blood test and you can even ask for ultrasound verification.
