For Those Of You Who Are Either On Unemployment Or Were I have A Question

What Happens when you run out of unemployment money for the first time? Do they automatically give you an extension, or do you have to qualify for one? If so what are the qualifications?

  • Go to the website and you'll see a link for extensions. If you were going to get an extension, they would have sent you a form before you ran out of money. I have had two extensions and am going to file for another. Do it by the website not by going in the office. They ask too many questions in the office. Good luck.

  • depends where you live, here they will take the app online but you have to have a follow up phone call, they also wont always send you a letter about additional benefits. the best thing to do is call in when yours runs out. Most states have a FAQ section regarding the extensions with the directions and requirements for each, and there are different extensions in different states depending on the rate of unemployment.

  • It varies by state. In Illinois the extension is automatic, though there was a one-week lag.
