Is this a wedding tradition?(Please read details, thanks)

I know someone that wants to have a traditional wedding and she said the father of the bride is the one that takes of that leg thing(sorry I don't know what it is called since I got married in a court house basement) I have not ever heard of this before. I have only heard the new husband doing this.

  • Hmm...I'm pretty sure it's suppose to be the groom. I tried googling it and found nothing. Most bride's wouldn't feel comfortable with their father's hand that far up their dress. lol. I dunno. Maybe she knows something I don't.

  • Uhh NO LOL
I would not want my dad pulling anything off my leg lol
It is the husband that does it

  • I have heard of the father of the bride putting it on. No idea on the symbolism behind but it does seem pretty perverted in this day and age. It's tradition that the groom takes it off after the marriage ceremony has taken place.

  • yes traditionally its the husband...and he throws it and a single man catches it...then the lady that caught the bouquet sits in a chair and the man that caught the garter put it on that lady....thats the way ive always heard of it....

  • It's the husband. The father of the bride taking it off is just pervy.

  • No the groom takes off the garter.

The father taking it off sounds creepy to me.
