  • well we taught our 3yr old preschools to cut, write their name, did cute crafts, worked on their vocabulary.

just as you're driving or walking point things out, talk about what things do.

as for "smart kids" don't try to put him in that catagorie, if you do, he'll sense it and it will probly put stress on him to think he has to be better for mommy. just help him learn as he goes. he doesn't have to be perfect

  • If you tell him all of the animals and you don't bring it back up again for 2-3 months there is no way he is going to remember!! You have to be consistent!

  • First do not get stressed out. Read to him everyday, have fun with him. Playing kids games are another way to learn, color , numbers. etc.
Even when you go shopping you can teach him how to count. You say I need 5-apples and than you count them in to the bags and also what color they are.
When kids a young you will have to repeat everything all the time.Telling them once is not good enough.
When you are driving point out trucks, red cars, green trees, blue sky, on and on. Teaching your child should be fun.

  • Preschoolers learn through repetition. So, yeah, if you teach him all the animals and then don't mention them for months he is going to forget. You just have to keep bringing it up over and over and over and over and it gets really monotonous.
My 3 1/2yo is just finally learning her colors. She knows her animals and most of her shapes, can count to 13 and is learning to write her name. She just picked these things up as we go about our lives. I didn't sit down and teach them to her or anything.

  • Consistancy is the key. We have a box of flashcards that include colors, shapes, numbers, letters and a matching game. My daughter will be 3 in January. We use the cards at least 3 times a week, starting with the ones she knows and working our way through. We also "quiz" her when we go places, like the store or grandma's. After 6 months she can count to 9 and knows her basic colors and most of the shapes.
