What size breast shields do i need for my medela pump in style?

I'm seeing 24mm to 36mm and want to know what that means, does it go by the size of your nipple or something?

  • It is the areola size. Are you purchasing it at a breastfeeding center (usually locatated in the hospital)? If you do in some states it is tax free and the ladies will also make sure you get fitted correctly. Congratulations on your impending birth.

  • Have you had your baby yet? If not...don't buy any breast shields...they'll size you and give them to you in hospital most of the time (assuming your hospital has a lactation consultant). The smaller size is standard...if you have large nipples (like I do), you might need the larger size.

  • Most women are fine with the ones that come with the pump. An IBCLC or LLL leader can fit you.
