Where can I get help with basic thing's??

My family & I are really going through a horrible time right now ...and I was just wondering if anyone knew a place where I could get some basic things we need for us & the house. I hate being in this position but, I guess sometimes it happens to the best of us=( Thanks

  • I don't know. I've been on the starvation diet the last 2 months and have lost about 20 pounds. Did you know if you eat about 500 calories a day for a few days you actually stop feeling very hungry? I'm on SSI disability and the most food stamps they give someone on SSI is $10 a month.

  • Apply for food stamps. Contact a church in your area. Many of them have food donation programs. Some of them have things like toilet paper, tampons, etc. The women's shelter in your area may help too. There is no shame in getting back from a system you've been paying in to. That's the purpose of it.

  • contact your town hall..we went through a period years ago. i know each town might be different but they gave us a voucher to get toilet paper, paper plates, paper towels, and a gas voucher to put gas in our car to get to work....now like i said that was years ago...AND each town is different...but still contact them...if they cant help they can tell you who can.

  • You can look on Freecycle and Craigslist for free things for the house... you can also barter or sell things on Craigslist... google for your closest food pantry- they usually can give you an emergency food box and what not... if it looks like this may last a while, you need to go to your local welfare office and see what they may have. Try very hard not to use payday loans and the like as they will only make a bad situation worse! Good luck!

  • Contact churches in your area, salvation army, food pantries, try your local united way-- they give to alot of organizations and might be able to direct you to ones that can help., also try catholic charities, lutheran social services-- they do alot of different things and if they can't help can direct you to places that can.
Good luck, I hope you find a place that can help, and I hope things get better for you!

  • I work with a community service organization that assists our local township every year. Call your City Hall to check out what organizations in your town offer asssistance. You can normally get diapers, toilet paper, and other toiletries for free from a local food pantry or township office. They sometimes can assist with gas and grocery cards as well. If you anticipate needing help for the holidays I would suggest signing up now and the need for help will be great this year and alot of people will be asking. Good luck, where are you located?
