  • As a matter of fact, I did. Back in my christian days. I think it gave a more realistic portrait of the relationship that would have existed between Joseph and Mary. Christians tend to purify situations like this, investing human beings with such divine natures as to become caricatures. If Jesus was born at all, there was pain and blood and fear on Mary's part and Joseph's gentle and supportive reaction was real and human. The book humanizes the affection and strong emotion between this pair.
