Can you be "mad" at God or "blame" God if you don't believe in God?

Can you believe Him to be vengeful or jealous if you don't believe in Him?

Can you really know and understand Him if you don't believe in His existence?

  • This is a good question, and it is probably directed more to people who don't believe in God, but some people have been let down by a previous belief in God. They may have once believed in God and then been really hurt. I know a few people who really believe God is vengefull and jealous. They use the word "genocide" to describe His righteous judment.

But they don't really understand Him at all. Our God who never changes, has throughout the Old Testament and the New Testament been a God who is compassionate and longsuffering. Who pleads with people to come to Him so He can bless them. He has always saved people through faith in Him, and given us grace. He has always the God that forgives all who come to Him.

His judgement is good, and people that don't know He is good don't know Him at all.

  • Why would you care if you don't believe?

  • I'm confused by the question. How can you be mad or blame Him if you don't even believe in Him?

  • You can't. It's the same as blaming Bigfoot when you stub your toe.

I don't know but every so often I see a question here or on another board where a person will blame God. In one group a person stated he doesn't believe in God and then asked how we can respect a God that allows wars. How does this person believe God allowed wars if God doesn't exist

  • No, it wouldn't make any sense to be mad at something that in your fantasy doesn't exist.

  • Um...no. And rhanford, what the HELL happened to you? You used to be really nice and agreeable, but lately you've really been stepping up the atheist hate. "No, it wouldn't make any sense to be mad at something that in your *FANTASY* doesn't exist." Seriously? You HAD to add that word? Can't you just live and let live? You MUST dog atheists when atheists have done nothing to you? *sigh*

OP, it is highly illogical and silly to think that an atheist would be mad at a deity. I am just as mad at the Christian god as I am at the Invisible Pink Unicorn, Zeus, and Krishna.

  • No, that's a big misconception about atheists. You can't be mad at something that you don't believe exists. That would be like being mad at Santa for not bringing you presents!

You CAN, however, be mad at the CONCEPT of religion when it causes injustices (and annoyances for that matter) in your life. You can also be mad at the people who use it to gain power and control people as many have in the past.

  • Caitxrawks, Why are you so upset at what rhanford said? Are you saying you never said God was a fantasy in people's minds? And she isn't hating on the atheists...she's just saying it like it is.
