why do Catholics call their service Mass?

  • Actually only Latin Rite Catholics refer to their service as a "Mass". Most Eastern Rite Catholics refer to their service as "Divine Liturgy".

    The term “mass” comes from the latin word missa (to "send forth"). At the end of the Mass we are sent forth “to love and to serve the Lord
